ABOUT

Sam is a London based theatre maker originally from Melbourne, Australia.

​

As Director he is currently working on Echolocation, a new musical set entirely in the dark, set to debut at Theatre Royal Plymouth in November. He was the Associate director and movement director for A Woman Walks Into a Bank (Winner of the 2023 International Playwright prize) which premiered at Theatre503. He is currently the Director and Dramaturg for the new musical Second Coming which received development support from Kindred Partners and had it's first public presentation this June with support from House of Oz. His next project "We Interrupt Your Regular Scheduled Programming" is set to premiere in London 2026.

Directing and choreography credits include A Chorus Line (Bird College), Bonnie and Clyde (Hayes Theatre co), City of Angels (Hayes Theatre co), Catch Me If You Can (OCPAC), They’re Playing Our Song (Company 11), 1&Only (VAULTS Festival), and In Loving Memory (Hayes Theatre co).

 

Sam has worked for Joshua Robson Productions since 2021, and in 2024 he moved into a producing role leading the development of the company's first new musical commission. JRP most recently had a return season of In The Heights at the Sydney Opera House and in 2025 the show will tour across Melbourne and the Gold Coast.

As a writer, his show Death Suits You won the "Spirit of the Fringe" award at the 2023 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and received "Show of the Week" at the 2023 VAULTS Festival.

Originally trained as a performer at the Victorian College of the Arts, Sam has performed internationally in shows such as King Kong Live Onstage (Global Creatures), Cats (Really Useful Group/GWB Entertainment), Cabaret (Showtune Productions), and Mamma Mia (Louise Withers and Co).

His work has a focus on shows that explore heavy topics through a comedic or satirical lens. Past works include Death Suits You, a black comedy about personified Death, In Loving Memory: A new musical exploring the stages of grief, and 1&Only: a political satire about a PR company who have been hired to sell the one-child policy to the UK.
